Collaboration on “Drug Development on Onchocerciasis”
On Monday 19th February, a team of Scientist from Case Western Reserve University, Center for Global Health and Diseases in Ohio and Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine Paid a working visit to the Dean of School of Biomedical and Allied Health Sciences, Prof. Solomon Ofori-Acquah in his office at Korle-Bu.
The members of the Team include; Prof. Christopher L. king, Mrs. Fischer Kenstin and Ms. Jennifer Klenke. They were accompanied by Dr. Mahmood Abdulai Seidu and Prof. George Asare of the Medical Laboratory Sciences department of the School.
They informed the Dean of a proposed project they are handling on “Drug development on Onchocerciasis”. This according to the team is in collaboration with the Pathology Unit of Medical Laboratory Sciences which is aimed at the processing and examination of Onchocerca volvulus nodules for the assessment of the viability of Onchocerca worms after drug administration.
As part of their side of the collaboration, the Pathology Unit of the Medical Laboratory Sciences department accepted the proposal to process and examine the nodules. The Dean on his part approved the collaboration and asked the head of Department of Medical laboratory Sciences to assist in creating space in the SBAH laboratories for the project.
