The Department of Dietetics hosts Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) site visit

The Department of Dietetics, University of Ghana, recently welcomed the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) team for a 3-day site visit, a crucial step towards achieving accreditation for its MSc Dietetics program.

If approved, the University of Ghana will become the first African university to receive ACEND accreditation, a testament to the department's commitment to excellence in dietetics education. The ACEND team, comprising Dr. Janet Stuhrcke, (ACEND Chair and Lead Reviewer), Dr. Rayane AbuSabha (ACEND Executive Director), Dr. Toyin Babatunde (ACEND Reviewer) and Dr. Lauri Wright (Cultural Liaison), met with faculty, staff, preceptors and students to assess the program's compliance with ACEND standards.

At a wrap-up session, the team provided a brief report, highlighting areas of strength and opportunities for improvement. Prof Alfred Yawson, provost of the College of Health Sciences, University of Ghana, emphasized that ACEND accreditation would enhance the University of Ghana’s program's quality, visibility, and international appeal, opening doors for graduates globally.

Dr. Freda Intiful, Head of Department, commended faculty and staff for their dedication, saying, "I'm proud of the team's commitment to ensuring the success of the site visit." The Dean of the School of Biomedical and Allied Health Sciences, Prof. Samuel Antwi-Baffour, also applauded the Head of department and Prof. Matilda Asante, Program Director for the Ghana program, for their tireless efforts.
