Position: Senior Member
Grade: Senior Lecturer
Email: asobeng@ug.edu.gh/obeng.akua@yahoo.com
Office Location: College of Health Sciences, University of Ghana, Korle-Bu Campus
Education: PhD Microbiology, (University of South Australia, Adelaide, Australia), BSc Medical Laboratory Sciences (University of Ghana, SBAHS)
Research Interest: My research interest has always leaned towards diseases of medical importance, their interaction with hosts, and their control strategies. Since 2014, I have been working on various vector-borne diseases and microbial genetics of infectious pathogens like Malaria, Schistosomiasis, Escherichia coli, Salmonella spp. etc. I have gained skills and in-depth knowledge in the coordination and management of various research projects, and fieldwork. At the Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences (University of Ghana), I am a lecturer, and I also coordinate various projects in the Infectious Diseases and teach microbiology with emphasis on parasites of medical importance. My research work as a faculty member is focused on determining the microbial assemblages of Anopheles mosquito breeding habitats for vector control. Firstly, by following mosquitoes’ habitats using entomological approaches, and secondly, by sequencing and undertaking bioinformatics on the sequenced data.
