Vacancy for Head of Department Positions School of Biomedical and Allied Health Sciences

The School of Biomedical and Allied Health Sciences, hereby invites applications from suitably qualified persons for the Heads of Departments positions listed below to take effect from 1st August, 2017.

 

1.    Medical Laboratory Sciences

2.    Haematology

3.    Medical Biochemistry

4.    Radiography

5.    Physiology

6.    Audiology, Speech and Language Therapy

7.    Medical Microbiology

8.    Chemical Pathology

 

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITIONS OF HEAD OF DEPARTMENT

The successful applicant must:

(a)       Be of doctoral (Medicine or PhD) status from an academic/research institution, or a person from industry eligible for that position

(b)       Be capable of providing academic leadership especially in the area of teaching, research and extension in the relevant discipline.

(c)        Provide evidence of supervisory/ administrative leadership and capacity to promote a collegial working environment in the Department.

 (d)      Have the vision and the drive to oversee the growth and development of the Department.

(e)       Normally, be able to serve a minimum of one term in office.

 

DUTIES
A Head of Department is responsible for providing leadership to the Department and for maintaining and promoting the efficiency and good order in accordance with the policies and procedures prescribed by the University Act and Statutes, or as may be determined by the Dean, the Academic Board and the School Management Committee.

The Head is to ensure that the approved programmes and functions of the Department are duly carried out by members of the Department.

The Head of Department is responsible for the general administration of the Department in respect of human and material resources within the general framework of University policy.

TENURE

The Head of Department shall hold office for 2-3 years on terms and conditions recommended by the Appointments Board, and is eligible for re-appointment for a further term of up to 2-3 years.

    I.        A cover letter

   II.        Completed application form for Senior Level Administrative Positions (UAB Form 1C) to be downloaded from the University’s website at www.ug.edu.gh/hrodd.

   III.        An up to date Curriculum Vitae and relevant supporting documents.

   IV.        A statement of about 1,500 words (not more than three pages) indicating how one intends to use the period in office to address relevant issues that will ensure that the                           School, and the College of Health Sciences, and University achieves its mission and vision.
