DEAN TOURS SBAHS HOSTEL WITH STUDENT REPRESENTATIVES

The Dean of the School of Biomedical and Allied Health Sciences Prof. Ofori-Acquah in the company of some members of Management and leadership of UGAHSA visited the renovation site of the Students Hostel on 20th November to have first-hand information on the progress of work done on the facility.

The visit was informed by a request from the student leadership who wanted to know the extent of work done and when the works is expected to complete to enable them occupy the facility.

During the tour, the Dean expressed satisfaction on the work done so far but also said the contractor  needs to work expeditiously to complete the work in no time. The foreman, who led the team, indicated that the works is expected to complete by December. He also said they were expecting the Beds and Furniture to be brought in anytime soon.

The Dean also said a committee will be put in place to work on processes of application, cost and criterion for qualification to occupy the Hostel. He suggested that, there will be Forms available online for prospective occupants to fill out to apply.

All rooms are fitted with electrical fittings as well as door locks and safety mosquito nets. The washrooms and Kitchenette have also been put in very good shape. Tiling works throughout the facility have also been completed. The team was assured that, works on the fore court of the Hostel was to start too.

In response to a question posed by the UGAHSA Secretary on who qualifies to apply, or whom priority will be given to; the Dean said the Level 300 and 400 students will be given priority. He also said students who are on good standing in terms of payment of fees will also be given due consideration.

The President of UGAHSA Mr. Emmanuel Kwaku Sam in an Interview after the tour said, he thinks much has been done and in his estimation, about 95% of the work has been done. He also said he expects Level 400 students to be given prime consideration, followed by Level 300 and to the lower classes. He wishes some amount of consideration is also given to Students doing their Masters programme as well.

On the current situation regarding their stay outside the Hostel while awaiting the completion of the renovation works, the President said; they are perching around with colleagues while others too come from their homes, some coming from as far as Tema for lectures.

The tour ended on a very good note with the Team members very appreciative of what they saw.
